Update on Pricing Fluctuations, Supply Chain
In our previous email to our clients, we detailed the issues associated with the supply chain issues the industry is facing, from not only a pricing standpoint but also availability. For example, urethan foam was being distributed only by allocation.
The good news is this appears to be softening, and pricing is beginning to level off. During this time , Madison Polymeric has worked to leverage multiple suppliers to maintain finished product delivery for our clients; at the same time, we are remaining cautious of price fluctuations in PE Foam, EPS Foam and paper board products.
Madison Polymeric Offers Increased Sustainability with Honeycomb Products
It is no secret there is a growing demand for sustainable packaging. Environmental concerns are growing, and our industry is at the heart of some of those concerns. We are proud to be at the forefront of addressing this concern, both for the environment and our clients.
Madison Polymeric (MPE) has added a variety of new products that offer increased levels of sustainability and maintain our high standards in packaging materials. Honeycomb paper board has been a kay addition, offering an environmentally friendly approach that meets the threshold to be considered “sustainable,” as it can be recycled and reused to make other products. This is vital, as only about 8% of plastics are recycled, while approximately 60% of paper products are recycled.
In addition to Honeycomb line, there are a variety of molded cellulose fiber materials we make use of and have worked with clients in either transitioning to environmentally friendly materials or a combination of materials that provide the structure needed while making use of recyclable materials.
If you are looking to push into more sustainable materials or have clients looking to do so, let us help. With the variety of products we offer and our engineering team, we can work with you to find the right option to meet your sustainability needs.
How Madison Polymeric Is Approaching Industry-Wide Price Volatility in Resin

First, we at Madison Polymeric maintain a diverse supplier base, and our volume allows us to have increased buying power. We are daily monitoring pricing among our suppliers to minimize our price increases to our customers.
Second, we have multiple options in our manufacturing capabilities that we can look at as options for our customers. This is a perfect time to look at the materials we are using for your projects, and consider new materials, or a combinations of materials, to address your needs.
We will keep you up to date on the industry and price fluctuations. And we invite you to contact us to review alternatives to better suit your needs and the needs of your clients as well.
Madison Polymeric to Add Pregis Custom Foam-In-Place Capabilities
Madison Polymeric Engineering (MPE) is excited to announce that we are now an authorized Pregis In-House Pre-Molder of custom engineered Foam-In-Place packaging in the New England market area.
For 2021, MPE continues to expand our protective packaging product offering to create a wide range of options in packaging solutions, providing increased protection with cost savings.
To this end, MPE has completed the installation of the latest generation of Pregis “On Demand” foam-in-place systems allowing us to offer a new Pre-Molded FIP solution to our customers. A foam-in-place production service for the in-house manufacture of custom designed FIP cushioning in low to large volumes where a Pre-Molded Foam In Place part is preferred.
The benefit to you is:
- An ability to see cost savings without the up-front equipment costs
- Manufacturing in a safe material environment
- Cost savings of a larger order for smaller demands

You Can’t Have Ice Cream Without the Cone
When an ice cream cone manufacture from Brooklyn, NY, was looking for foam packaging that would protect their unique waffle ice cream cones from breaking during shipping, Connecticut’s own Madison Polymeric Engineering licked the competition.
Ice Cream Cones Are a Delicate Matter
Designing a solution is one thing, actually fabricating the end result is an entirely another. What sets Madison Polymeric Engineering apart from all others is it has the whole scoop, a staff of designers, engineers, state of the art manufacturing facilities in the United States and Mexico, and professional staff.
The solution was polyether foam, and Madison Polymeric Engineering’s expert experience in fabricating polyether foam from custom designed specifications. The design fit into the ice cream cone manufacture’s display package perfectly, insulating and cushioning the fragile waffle ice cream cone.
A Cut Above
In manufacturing the product, the CNC profile cutter was used to cut out the design from a 3215 White Ether Foam Bun. During the cutting process two thousand packaging inserts per bun were produced, from a bun with the dimension, 40” x 84” x 108”, Madison Polymeric Engineering has CNC profile cutters that are available for many unique projects.
Foam Has Its Own Character
Polyether foam, also known as Ether, is a flexible, open-cell type of polyurethane foam, and it was perfect for this application because of its energy absorption qualities, it’s a cushioning material that is very light weight.
